Charging and arcing by space plasma on solar array surface of the satellite causes a critical damage. To prevent the damage, it is important to verify the reliability of the solar array by ground test.
However, an international standard for an test method does not exist by 2006.
Each country conducts the test under different standards.
For repeated accidents on orbits, satellite makers, satellite service providers and insurance companies
demand a "correct" and "common" test that is based on physical mechanisms of charging and arcing.
LaSEINE acts for establishment of the International Standard Organization (ISO) standard on ground test
with the organization related to space development.
The 1st NEDO Workshop as part of the project was held at LaSEINE of KIT.
